This was an easy one to check off the list. Most of the lighthouses in our project are day trips. The Oswego Harbor West Pierhead Light is a familiar part of the backdrop of our lives.
Oswego’s lighthouse, located about ten miles from our home, is a beloved local landmark (lakemark?). It’s something of a symbol of the City of Oswego in the same way that the Statue of Liberty is shorthand for New York City or the Gateway Arch represents St. Louis.
There are many lighthouses that are larger, have more distinctive designs, or boast a more colorful histories, but this one is ours and we love it.
Jen took the shot below from the recently revamped Breitbeck Park. There are a number of spots around Oswego to get a good look at the lighthouse, but Breitbeck probably offers the best easily accessible vantage point. (The park’s footpaths and benches, surrounded by some really handsome new stonework, also offer an enjoyable way to experience the lakeshore in general.)

While we did make a dedicated trip this month to capture a new image of the Oswego Harbor West Pierhead Light specifically for our project, my phone and social media archives were already filled with pics of it. Here are just a few of many:
