Sleepy Time at the Zoo

Jen and I went the Syracuse’s Rosamond Gifford Zoo this afternoon. We are members and go there a few times a year. It’s a good thing that we can go see the animals any time we want because today’s visit was a decidedly low-energy affair. Not all of the animals were dozing off, but many of the more high-profile attractions were comatose. I suppose the takeaway is that visiting in the afternoon on a warm summer day is a recipe for seeing lazy critters.

Of course, most of these animals are incredibly photogenic, even when they are catching Zs. Here are some shots from today’s trip. (All photos courtesy of Jennifer Parke-Marriner.)

You won’t get very far putting this tiger in your tank.
This is Bjorn, the Andean Bear. Bjorn is marketed as one of the star attractions of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, but today he didn’t work too hard at thrilling the crowd.
Snow Leopard or Snooze Leopard?
These penguins appear to be awake, and just laying low out of the afternoon sun.
Flamingos nodding off at 2 p.m. This would be an apt symbol of Jimmy Buffet’s current-day fanbase.
This wolf was about as energetic as the canines that live in our house.
A sleeping koala = moment of Zen.
