A Boat’s-Eye View of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor

Call me a stereotypical tourist, but I really enjoy taking a boat tour of a city. I’ve toured London by boat on the Thames, Paris from the Seine, and Cologne by the Rhine. I’ve done Duck Boat tours of Boston and Philadelphia, and yes — I’ve taken the Circle Line around Manhattan.

The sightseeing by boat tradition continued a couple weeks ago when we found ourselves in Baltimore and had some time to kill before the Orioles game we were in town for. We hopped on a tour boat and cruised around the Inner Harbor for a little under an hour. It was a gray and drizzly day, but we still managed to enjoy the views off the starboard side.

Our tour boat.
The Domino Sugar Refinery with its iconic sign.
The Title Tanks are enormous molasses-storage tanks featuring murals of Baltimore sports heroes Michael Phelps, Cal Ripken, Jr., and Ray Lewis. (Mr. Lewis is obscured behind those trees on the right.)
The remains of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
U.S.S. Constellation.
National Aquarium.
The building with the golden onion domes is St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church. An impressive sight.
Something tells me that the captain of this vessel is a real meshuganer.
Taking it all in from my seat on the boat. Jen captured this shot without me knowing it. I’m fond of this photo because I see a lot of my father in it.
Charm City.
