The thermometer just hit zero degrees Fahrenheit. There’s not much to say about that, but it is a temperature that, when experienced firsthand, is pretty much impossible to refrain from acknowledging. Around here in December, twenty degrees doesn’t even warrant a shrug. Anything in the teens might inspire an exaggerated “brrrrr” sound, or some remark about how it’s “getting cold.” Single-digit temps will make you mad and question why you still live here.

But at zero degrees, there’s nothing to do but accept that no matter how many harsh winters you’ve lived through, this level of frigidity just smacks you in the face and takes your breath away a little bit. You’ll never get used to it…nor would you want to. Then you observe matter-of-factly to the nearest person that’s it’s really cold out. And that person grimly nods in agreement, perhaps adding, “Yup.”
Anyway, it’s really cold out right now.
